I am working with Prof. David Steinsaltz as part of the CoMPuTE research project, to develop advanced new statistical tools ("AI"), to use big datasets to better understand the causes and consequences of multi-morbidity (multiple co-occurring health conditions).

New approaches to the study of diseases and the relationships between them are being offered by the combination of big data and emerging machine-learning methodologies. Anthony has been awarded a 3-year NDPH fellowship to pursue his research proposal, that will explore links between existing classifications of disease and epidemiological data. He will combine established and newly emerging statistical methods to characterise the temporal and etiological characteristics of disease, and to study the relationships between them. The aims are threefold: (i) to provide new insights into the causes and consequences of disease, (ii) to develop new methods for their study and characterisation, and (iii) to understand and improve, present and future systems of disease classification.

Planning of, implementation of, and interpretation of statistical analyses of data from the Million Women Study. Reporting as lead author, and contributing to joint publications, representing the unit at relevant academic meetings. Contributing to wider teaching and student supervision activities of the department as required.

I am spending one year to further develop my expertise in applications of statistics and probability. I am looking for a career change into statistics and data analysis, possibly to further explore my interests in an insurance-led response to climate change (see publications).

I spent 15 years as a theoretical physicist, initially with toroidal MHD calculations of plasma equilibrium and stability, then later developing applications of Bayesian probability theory and statistics for fusion data analysis.
