After graduating university with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in electrical / electronic engineering, I began my career as a control system engineer at J & P Richardson in a graduate engineering role. The position had me working on a variety of projects in and around factories and amongst the water and waste water network in south east Queensland. The role varied across programming PLCs, designing SCADA systems, scoping potential jobs, managing small projects and budgets, and fault finding on clients sites.During this time I acquired technical skills across a range of PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) and SCADA systems (Citect, Factory talk) as well as gained skills in communication, project management, and technical debugging. After three years working as a control systems engineer, and despite an offer of contract renewal, I moved sectors into the software development space. I had gained programming experience through university and my previous role as an engineer and accepted a job at Vision Christian Media (national radio broadcaster with over 750 sites across Australia) as an IT Developer.My primary role includes maintaining, customizing, and developing custom applications as required by the evolving business structure. The primary areas of development fixate around the Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Business Central Software packages utilised by the organisation in customer service and technical service management as well as accounting.Examples of projects include:- Automatic receipt generation- Customer workflows and training- Integration with payment gateways- Integration with customer facing web pages- Report building and power BI integration- Custom Plugin Design- Custom Javascript and webresources- power automate / low code solutionsAs a result of time invested into automation, incredible time savings and process streamlining has been achieved saving the company hundreds of man hours and the subsequent financial cost associated with that.
