Reduced training times by several orders of magnitude.Survey of black-box safety validation algorithms: Compiled and analyzed 130+ papers for a survey of techniques for the safety validation of black-box autonomous systems. -

Team Leader For The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Clinic Project.Harvey Mudd College Sep 2013 - May 2014Claremont, Ca, UsI was part of a 4 person team tasked with designing, building, and testing an automated calibration technique for segmented antineutrino detectors. The detectors will be used for the study of antineutrino production in nuclear power plants for the purposes of nuclear non-proliferation and in the search for the theorized "sterile neutrino". The detectors themselves are long rods of scintillating material with detectors on either end. Anti-neutrino collisions can produce positrons and neutrons that can be seen by the detectors.My technical roles included experimental design and setup of the calibration technique. We used a radioactive source to simulate the neutrino events and an external detector to measure energy for calibrating the detector. I wrote a suite of data analysis tools that automatically parsed wave-form data from the detectors and calculated the position and energy of a collision. The software was integrated with the automatic calibration rig to automatically create calibration results for a given calibration run.As Team leader I learned how to run group meetings, delegate tasks, keep team members motivated and interface with our advisors at Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL). We wrote and gave 4 presentations on the subject including one at (LLNL). -

Duties included:Read academic papers to understand the mathematical model used to focus out-of-focus regions of the 3D image.Improved upon previously developed Matlab code used to model the process.Selected components for and built a computer with two GPUs dedicated to running the focusing algorithm.Wrote modeling code and focusing algorithm to run in parallel on the computer's GPUs using the CUDA programming language.Compared data acquisition time to focusing time to confirm that the focusing process can be run in real time. -
