About Dan A.
I speak to companies and groups, large and small, about how we can simplify complex technical concepts with stories and humor to make them accessible and relatable in effort to empower non-technical teams with knowledge to confidently engage in technology discussions and initiatives.In my early IT career, I worked to build a media PC system drive template for the better part of a week. Getting everything installed and working correctly was rough. Getting the process to accurately copy to new machines was slightly less work. Just over 2 months later, one of those systems was returned to us for repairs.That system had been brought nearly to a halt due to viruses, spyware, and crapware. It was a quick fix for us (nuking the drive from orbit was the only way to be sure), but that sparked my interest in cybersecurity.Since then, I've directly worked in the most boring of frameworks, including NIST 800-53 and 800-171, GLBA, FFIEC, HIPAA, FERPA, and PCI. Most recently I've focused on IT audit; Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC).
