Growing up, I was a tinkerer. I always wondered just how things worked, and if they weren't working properly, how I could fix them. Through my youth, I would take apart RC cars, fix motorcycles with my dad, and play with electronic components to see what would happen. This evolved slowly into a curiosity with how computers work, leading eventually to my studies chasing a computer engineering major at a highly respected school, UIUC.After two years of hard work and plenty of practice with iRobotics, I realized that computer engineering just wasn't for me. I wanted hands-on work where I could see the results of my work actually in motion. This is what led me to FN Smith and my path toward becoming a mechanical engineer through NIU. The ability to design, from start to finish, a custom machine for a client and then see that very machine come to life was what I had been chasing all along.
