Anthony Eliopoulos was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio and attended Amherst Steele High School, graduating in 2014. During his years at Steele, he was a member of the National Honors Society and captain of the football and basketball teams. While growing up, he managed to convince his parents to let him stay up late to watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Thanks to Jon Stewart, Anthony got involved in politics at a young age because it affects the lives of people every day, whether they realize it or not. This interest in politics grew into a passion that he brought with him to Athens, Ohio where he attended Ohio University.As a Sophomore in college, Anthony's dad, Lou, a union man and member of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, was diagnosed with cancer. To help pay for schooling with the added medical bills, Anthony enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard as an infantryman and later commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from Ohio University Army ROTC. Shortly after leaving for Basic Training, Lou passed away from his battle with cancer. Along with fulfilling his military duties during college, Anthony graduated with two degrees in Journalism: Strategic Communication and Political Science. In 4 years at OU, Anthony was elected as a Senator At-Large by his peers, elected as the statewide President of the College Democrats of Ohio, interned in Washington D.C. for Congressman G. K. Butterfield, and volunteered for campaigns such as: Hillary for America, Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate, and numerous state and local elections.After graduating from college, Anthony briefly worked at the Lorain County Board of Elections before serving as the Veteran and Military Affairs Liaison for U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown's Office from 2019-2022. He then ran as the Democratic candidate to represent the Ohio Senate's 13th District in the Ohio Statehouse. Following the election, Anthony was deployed to At-Tanf Garrison, Syria, in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In his 9 months overseas, Anthony served as the Personnel Staff Officer for the 2-107th Cavalry Regiment, handling personnel and administrative concerns for 300 deployed servicemembers.In his current role, Anthony travels the state to help ensure Ohio veterans are given access to the benefits they earned during their service and further advocate for more benefits to encompass the total cost of war. He grew to learn what it means to be a public servant. To serve each constituent, regardless of political identification, to the best of his ability.
