About Anthony (Tony) Ellingen
Dedicated Mechanical Engineer with 2+ years of robotics and automation design and analysis experience through professional career, NASA Robotic Mining Competition team, FIRST Robotics, and senior design project. Ability to lead teams to successful outcomes using effective communication across multiple departments and disciplines. Mentor to FIRST Robotics teams and mechanical engineering interns. In high school, I was a founding member of my high school’s FIRST Robotics team, helping lead it to the World Championships in our first 2 years as a team. I was the leader of the mechanical subteam and enjoyed all aspects of the mechanical side of the robot. From that point on I knew I wanted to have a career in robotics and automation as a mechanical engineer. At MSOE, I continued my interest of robotics by joining the NASA Robotic Mining Competition team, becoming the mechanical subteam lead my junior year. I enjoyed leading my team to the best competition result we’ve had in 3 years as a team. I have had internships in the automation field with Rockwell Automation, where I learned about the components that go into automation systems by making demo units and testing motors. I used this knowledge in my last internship with Charter Next Generation to help automate processes at the plant. My senior design project was also robotics based by designing a robot to extract modules from a motor control cabinet. I continue to use all this experience in my current position as a mechanical engineer at IAS designing robotic and custom automation cells. As an Eagle Scout, I learned about leadership and project management though my Eagle Scout Project. I organized donations from companies and led volunteers performing the labor. I have also taken leadership roles on all the robotics teams I have been on, being the mechanical subteam lead in FIRST Robotics and NASA RMC. I continue to be a leader in the community by being a mentor for high school FIRST Robotics teams. I learned how to communicate effectively, motivate a team, and meet deadlines due to the responsibilities of these positions. With a large amount of organization and decision-making skills, I effectively manage my professional and personal passions.
