I'm a software engineer that writes both application and system-level code. I've coded in a variety of languages, both compiled and interpreted. I like working with Linux, and have been using it for over 20 years. I'm also familiar with AIX, and have been known to dabble in Windows development. I'm a fan of open-source software, and have run a variety of Linux distributions over the years.I'm an expert C developer, and proficient in Java as well. I'm quite comfortable with shell scripting, and have written a few Perl utilities when heavy lifting was required. I'm comfortable with CVS and Subversion, and have designed and implemented automated build systems for various projects. I've been known to build installation packages as well, using both RPM and MSI.I've worked with IBM mainframes for much of my career, and as such have experience with Linux on System z, z/OS, UNIX System Services, and System z firmware.I have ported numerous open-source utilities to z/OS, in an effort to improve the usability and functionality of the system. Some of these became supported products, like PHP and bzip2. Others are available on a unsupported basis, like Info-Zip and less.
