About 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Anthony Hamer-Hodges

Talent Development * Education * Business Leadership * Strategy * Governance * Brand Building * Brand Licensing * Brand Partnerships * Brand Protection * Content Creation & Digital Services * Social Media Analytics * Legal drafting * Negotiation * Royalties & ReportingI understand what it takes to connect with audiences and build loyalty in the marketplace whether launching a new music artist, a digital app or when managing a portfolio of consumer product licensees. I know how licensing and rights work and can communicate and build consensus across stakeholders including creative talent, board level executives and brand owners. I focus on achieving goals through effective team leadership, intelligent deal making and strategic partnerships. I always look for clarity, data and perspective to find truth and common sense solutions for everyday problems. My experience at the top of several small businesses means I am both a generalist - running projects, teams and P&L - and a specialist with expertise in contract negotiation, strategy and comms, entertainment partnerships and talent management.

I started teaching music business part time after leaving my post as Chief Commercial Officer of the tech startup SupaPass in 2015. My previous Board Advisor suggested I speak to LCCM who were looking to expand their portfolio of courses. This resulted in us bringing the music business course and all of the 3rd year students across from UEL in 2017. I saw LCCM like a startup and was keen to make my mark, rising to the top within 4 years. I became Principal and CEO at a precarious time, coming out of the pandemic with just 90 enrolled students in June 2021. I conceived, wrote & designed a new more accessible and modern course BA Commercial Music, keen to tap into and represent the exciting music making communities in our local boroughs of Southwark & Lambeth. I had been teaching our students that ‘to stand out you must stand for something’ so I redefined the college mission to help transform not just the lifes of our students but to help bring about a fairer, more representative, better educated and musically more exciting industry. In 2020 through my industry network I met Dr Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father, and brought him on board as a visiting lecturer. By 2023 Commercial Music took over as the most popular degree at the college and we had grown to over 700 enrolled students. I have built a new structure, and hired & nurtured an incredible team who have all contributed to this unique HE success story. As figurehead for the business I have enjoyed speaking to media including ITV, BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, 5 Live, LBC, Times Radio, London Live and all the amazing regional BBC and other local radio stations on topics close to my heart including the economics of streaming, the power of music education, neurodiversity & creativity, music in schools, independent music trailblazers and the benefit of dedicated practise and deliberate reflection in the pursuit of life purpose.
