My PhD studies began with my first residency at the North Atlantic Fisheries Institute, Scalloway UHI campus in Shetland. My research is within the discipline of Island Studies and my primary focus is on the Faroe Islands. The PhD is funded through the University of the Highlands and Islands Graduate School and the Institute of Northern Studies in Orkney.

DIS is a non profit study abroad foundation established in Denmark in 1959 with locations in Copenhagen and Stockholm. DIS provides semester, academic year and summer programs for upper division undergraduate students from North American colleges and universities.

Task Force Against Trafficking In Human Beings (Tf-Thb)
The Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings (TF-THB) has been in operation since 2006. It honoured ten years of work in September 2017 with a performance of Try Human by Disa Krosness at the Tjarnarbío theatre in Reykjavík. The TF-THB is a multi-disciplinary group of ministry experts who meet three to four times a year to initiate protective and preventive work to counteract different forms of trafficking in human beings. The new TF-THB strategy up until 2025 was adopted under the Danish Presidency . The Task Force is supported by Secretariat functions. The TF-THB has just published the 2020 Baltic Sea Region Round-up report on Human Trafficking. In 2017 launched the awareness raising campaign Human Trafficking - A crime that is all of our responsibility.

Balticlab Innovation Programme (Swedish Institute And Council Of The Baltic Sea States)
The Balticlab Innovation Programme now has 300 alumni and a community of hundreds more.A development and learning programme which focused on prototyping, ideation and creativity, with a special focus on inclusion of women into innovation processes and leadership. Each year involved a large networking gathering in Stockholm followed by a series of week-long intensive residencies and workshops in different cities across the region. Balticlab has now become a network connecting talent from 13 countries, all of whom are drivers in their respective communities and fields. In December 2016 we brought half of them together across all four years.
Project Support Facility (Psf) Selection Committee Member
The Project Support Facility is a seed funding mechanism of the Council of the Baltic Sea States to support regional partnerships strengthen and grow. The Selection Committee consists of the Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) Troika (preceding, current and future Chair of the CSO) alongside the Secretariat management (Director General, Deputy Director General, Head of Administration and Head of Media and Communication). The Selection Committee forwards their proposals to the Committee of Senior Officials for discussion and approval. Another €1million was agreed for the period 2017-2019 in December 2016. The previous €1million was awarded to 20 projects over the two year period 2013-2015. Meetings are currently Chaired by the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Streetwise Youth London (now part of Terrence Higgins Trust under the name Swish) gives support services, advice, referral and assistance to young people involved in prostitution. During this time I was also Phoneline Operator and contributing editor to the AIDS Treatment Project bulletin. The AIDS Treatment Project was a non profit organisation that provided the latest research and information on new and existing treatments for HIV and AIDS. It ran a phoneline for help, advice and assistance. It was formed in the summer of 1996. The aim was to provide HIV Positive people and those involved in the treatment of HIV and AIDS with up-to-date and accurate information. With this in mind a collection of articles was compiled of Clinical trial results into a fortnightly document called "Doctor Fax". Each issue of "Doctor Fax" was faxed or posted to approximately 600 Doctors and Clinics throughout the U.K. i-Base was formed in April 2000 by the former publications, editorial and meetings team from the AIDS Treatment Project - HIV i-Base is a treatment activist group, HIV-positive led and committed to providing timely HIV treatment information to HIV-positive people and to health care professionals.

The Representative Officer is an elected post of the Student Union to represent and actively work to ensure that the views and needs of the relevant group are considered within the Student Union and University community. They sit on the Union Council and relevant committees and hold weekly drop-in sessions for students to discuss issues and challenges they face on campus or in their personal life.
