As an investment manager at Sofina my two main tasks are the sourcing and analysis of prospective investment opportunities, as well as monitoring the development of portfolio companies. I thus work closely together with Sofina’s Executive Committee and the various support functions (Legal, Tax, Finance, IT).The evolution in roles at Sofina followed quite naturally with the interest I had in the core activity of the company. I engaged in further Finance education in October 2015 (Master in Finance @ EMS Brussels) before starting my new role in September 2016 alongside which I prepared for the CFA exams. The Tax & Legal background with experience acquired along the years at Deloitte and Sofina’s legal team is a very helpful tool used everyday. This makes my profile as an investor different and complementary within our Sofina One Team.

As Tax & Legal Counsel I was in charge of the efficient execution of the tax and legal obligations imposed to Sofina as well as of the supervision of the compliance with these obligations by the Sofina Group. I analyzed the tax and legal consequences of potential or ongoing transactions. I ensured the follow up of the portfolio companies of Sofina and support the different investments and exits. I maintained a network of relationships with our peers and represented Sofina in professional organizations.

As a Corporate International Tax at Deloitte Belgium I worked in a team that offered multidisciplinary solutions to the corporate tax challenges of multinationals, large and medium Belgian private and public companies, small and medium sized dynamic and growth companies, governmental organizations, etc. and this on a recurring and specialized project basis. We assisted our clients with innovative and sound tax solutions, (inter)national tax planning, strategic tax reviews, compliance assistance and review, tax aspects of merger & acquisition transactions, estate planning and tax treatment of financial institutions and products. More specifically my tasks and functions in our team were the following:• I assisted and advised clients regarding corporate tax matters, both national and international, working closely and building excellent relationships with them. •I was responsible for handling a varied portfolio of client assignments, I actively participated in client meetings, and developed our relationships with our clients on a daily basis .• In my client teams I reported to my more experienced colleagues and was responsible for delegating work to less experienced colleagues. Within Deloitte Belgium I joined the tax recruiting team, I was active in people strategy group and organised several sport activities.I strongly believed that an active broadening of our network inside and outside the Deloitte organisation, a healty work-life balance and regular sport activities were key in the development of our department.
