I was a part of the Boeing Tech Prep Internship. It was a 3 year internship, over 3 summers.The first year was training on how to operate the machine tools in the skills lab. The second year they put the interns into teams of two and had us compete against one another in a real world scenario. We had customers who needs us to design a CO2 powered car, that fits into their specifications, and then we had to sell our design and prototype back to them. The cars performance was compared in a 100ft drag race. We had to keep track of material cost, as well as labor at various costs for if we were in the computer lab or working on machine tools. At the end of internship we had to compete to see whos design the costumers would buy. So we made a presentation to sell our car, as well as a binder to hand out. The customers picked our design, because our car was the fastest, had a very low cost, and was easy to manufacture.The third year was supposed to be job shadowing, but do to covid it was another intern vs intern product competition. This year we had make a rocket boat that again fit within our customers specifications. This year they did not have a cost associated with material and labor, but they still picked whatever boat performed the best and was sold to them the best. Once again we made a power point, and a binder. And my teams design was picked by the customers again. (We had both different teams and different customers the second year.)
