Senior Field Technician
CurrentDielectric fluid leak detection/prevention in underground transmission feeders through atmospheric monitoring of Perfluorocarbon Tracer (PFT) technology. Accustomed to working flexible and demanding shifts during emergencies. Perform testing, troubleshooting and repairs of instrumentation.Read/interpret plates and diagrams of underground structures (manholes, vaults, service boxes) and cables (electric & gas distribution & transmission). Make sketches/drawings during sampling events. Environmental field sampling of water and soil for PCBs, metals, bacteria, volatile organics, petroleum hydrocarbons, and particulates among other tests. Responsible for filling out field sampling reports for customers and personal environmental log book for records of sampling details and field conditions.Asbestos surveying, inspecting and sampling for construction projects with proper respiratory protection. Gas quality testing of sulfur hexafluoride and nitrogen filled electrical substation equipment for insulation properties. Require working at elevated heights in buckets/man-lifts & use of hand tools.Atmospheric testing & monitoring for natural gas, carbon monoxide and other hazardous components. Oil quality sampling and testing for insulation properties and explosive gases from live electric equipment like transformers and circuit breakers in substations. Required to be cognizant of high-voltage surroundings while working in substations, especially when alone. Communicate with customers in the field and relay information on test results\observations. Deal directly with the public during mercury spill cleanups in customer homes. Required to walk, climb or stand extensively, work in inclement weather (steam & manhole sampling), and work around noisy construction projects as well as confined spaces. Perform mathematical calculations on-site for various test results.
