Architect
Architectural Designer
Following the merger with AFL Architects, S&P Architects became known as AFLS+P Architects. My position within the company also changed at this time from being a Part II Architectural Assistant to a Architectural Designer until I completed my Part III studies. I continued to be responsible for the Continuing Professional Development programme for the London office which was in accordance with the RIBA and ARB requirements.
Part Ii Architectural Technician & Cpd Coordinator
After I completed my Degree course I went to work with S&P Architects Ltd as part of my year out recording my experience on the PEDR sheets and returning to Westminster for tutorials in Professional Practice. During this period I mainly worked on feasibility projects and learnt a great deal of how projects were procured and how the relationships between the design team Consultants are formed and maintained on projects of differing scales. I also studied the statutory obligations and standards that designers have to achieve though Building Regulations, British Standards, Sport England Design Guidance, and Code for Sustainable homes and BREEAM etc.Ready for a new challenge I applied to London South Bank University to acquire the Part II Diploma qualification. At this stage I wanted to combine academic learning with practical learning. Part of this experience demanded that I learn the valuable skill of time management, resourcing and planning for meeting deadlines for practice and academia.Meanwhile my role at S&P Architects evolved in line with my gained experience now involving delivering projects through the latter part of the RIBA work stages within a large team such as the London Olympic Aquatic Centre (LAC). It was very exciting to work on such a landmark building as the LAC which did involve meeting very tight deadlines and being part of a large design team comprising of Zaha Hadid Architects, Arups, the ODA, and Access Consultants etc. This was challenging to coordinate and integrated within the team however I feel that I learnt much from the experience which has helped me on other projects of a similar scale. In addition to my day-to-day involvement in projects I have also been appointed as the CPD Coordinator for the London office. It is my responsibility that all of the RIBA’s Core Curriculum is formally addressed through accredited seminars and programmed throughout the year.
Sales Negotiator
While I was working towards attaining my Degree I worked as a sales negotiator for a successful Estate Agents in St. Albans. I was responsible for marketing properties, making appointments for viewing, for financial service referrals and taking prospective buyers around the properties.I worked closely with the Land Office, offering prospective layouts and feasibility studies for Clients. I also became an Associate member of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) after completing the examinations in residential sales. This has given me a knowledge and understanding of the following areas; The Estate Agents Act 1979, Professional Practice and acting in the best interests of the client, Money Laundering Regulation, Energy Performance Certificates, Cancellation of Contracts Regulations, Provision of Services Regulations, Town & Country Planning Act, Data Protection Act, Equality Act, Employment Law, Insight into Trading Standards Officers enforcement of legislation, The key principles of effective selling, How to sell against the competition, How to use effective questioning techniques, The power of listening and understanding, How to structure and deliver effective presentations, Fee and Value calculation, The process of selling a house, Traps that cause delays and how to overcome them and Management/Leadership recognition of the differences and how leadership style can influence the morale, efficiency and productivity of individuals and teams.
