Since moving back to Perth in 2011, I've worked as a Senior Consultant at Phobos Consulting working on a variety of major projects.See Project section for details.

My role as a Senior Developer at Lateral was within a team responsible for the development of a social media application called ‘Thred’. The web component was developed in-house by the Lateral team, while the native mobile application was developed by an offshore team in the Ukraine. The web solution comprised of an Angular Single Page Application front-end, using WebAPI and SQL Server back-end. It was also responsible for providing the HTTP API for the native application.The solution was hosted on the Microsoft Azure platform, as a member of the BizPark Plus program. One of my responsibilities was to automate the build and release process using Visual Studio Team Services and Azure Resource Manager. Development followed an agile approach, with two week sprints and regular releases to production.

I was a Senior Integration Developer within a major project at Sodexo to deliver integrated facilities management services in Rio Tinto’s extensive operations in the Pilbara region. The software solution was delivered entirely on the Microsoft Azure platform, using leading-edge Microsoft technologies. Within the integration team we delivered a solution built on many of Microsoft’s Platform-as-Service offerings including ServiceBus, Logic Apps, API Apps and API Management. As well as delivering integration functionality, my role focused on developing the automated build and release processes for the solution. Using Visual Studio Team Services, Azure Resource Manager and custom built components, the solution built has Continuous Integration into the development environment (including end-to-end automated testing) and automated deployment into all other environments.

As the Technical Lead for the Content Production System (CPS), I was responsible for the overall architecture and technical direction of all the components of the system. The CPS is used by BBC journalists to produce a large number of the BBC journalism sites, including the BBC News and BBC Sport sites, for the web, mobile and other platforms.My role also included managing the working practises of the CPS team, and I implemented a weekly iteration development cycle within the team, with an emphasis on the delivery of small incremental changes to the system.

While I was a Principal Software Engineer in the CPS team I was responsible for the architecture and technical direction of the desktop client component of the CPS. While still hands-on with the development of the application, I also worked with project and product managers to coordinate the changes and enhancements required and to distribute the workload within the team of desktop client developers.During this time we successfully launched the new version of the CPS desktop client to over 600 journalists world-wide. The new version was a complete re-write of the legacy Visual Basic client using .NET WinForms (C#) and WPF. At the heart of the re-engineering effort was the constant goal to produce a user-friendly and productive system balanced with good software design principles.

My first role at the BBC was within the CPS team to begin the re-engineering of the desktop client application. This involved the technical design of the new application, the allocation of the work within the desktop client team, and close involvement with other CPS team members. We successfully launched a pilot of the new application to gain feedback from the journalists and to build the development roadmap

As a senior member of the development team I was responsible for the overall architecture of the solutions developed by the team. During the last six months my role also included resource management of the developers.

My initial role at Mercer was as a member of the development team for the Healthconnect product. My role was to aide in the completion of the development work for the 1.0 release of the product. This included handover from the external vendor who had completed most of the initial development. I was also responsible for the configuration and ongoing maintenance of the hosting environment.

As Technical Leader I had responsibility for technical oversight of all projects at Netluminous.Key projects included:* e2 Framework: set of scalable, customisable and reusable components for developing Internet applications* Global Trade Station v2: an Internet application enabling trading of Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds with interfaces with Quotes, News and Straight-through processing* Global Horizon Online: an online virtual banking solution

At EDS, I was part of a Technical Lead team which had responsibility for bidding on a number of significant projects (> $300K). As a member of the team I also reviewed estimates prepared by fellow Technical Leads. This task included consultations with clients to ensure that solutions proposed were aligned with their company’s overall technical strategy.

Initially I was with the EDS Australia team responsible for support for several significant Financial Markets applications (a daily throughput >$15 billion). Shortly after joining the Internet Development Team, I was appointed the Senior Technical Resource. As a member of the team I was responsible for the maintenance of the Commonwealth Bank Internet site and the development of online applications for several clients (including the Commonwealth Bank).
