About Tony K.

Above all, and in one short, concise, and accurate statement: I am a man of faith, intellect and integrity. I am a devoted and intransigent engineer and scientist who is always looking for ways to grow and learn. Driven by the addage that "Today is a lot different than I thought it was going to be yesterday", I am always looking for new things, albeit skills or academic topics, to learn or converse about.I hold a B.S. in Information Technology from La Salle University, where I also completed a minor in Computer Science and a personal interest minor in History. I hold a Masters of Science in Computer Science with concentrations in Data Science and Software Engineering, with Honors, from Johns Hopkins University.I am currently working as a Practice Lead, Data Science for Analytica, where my time is spent split between engaging in NLP and machine learning work for clients and helping to build out and formalize internal data science practices and standards.Previously, I have spent time at Sinclair Broadcast Group as a Lead/Senior Data Scientist, taking part in a lot of ML Ops and LLM-development work. Additionally, I've worked at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab as a Data Scientist supporting anomaly detection, explainable AI, and multi-modal data fusion efforts. I have also spent significant time at Northrop Grumman as a Data Scientist, leading predictive analytics efforts in global supply chain, quality assurance, manufacturing, and cyber resilience. My academic research interests include explainable AI, applied machine learning, natural language processing, and model interpretability.I am fortunate to have had my life touched by so many different men and women in different ways. Coaches, family, friends, peers, mentors -- I am truly fortunate to have had such guidance. I am a begrudging optimist -- I tend to look on the bright side even if I don't always want to. I like to ask myself, "Am I my biggest problem today?"I hope we get the opportunity to connect, so please feel free to reach out to me. Also, please include a note (have we worked together? etc). I do not accept connection requests without a note.

  • Northrop Grumman
    Mission Assurance Quality Engineering Intern
    Northrop Grumman May 2015 - Aug 2016
    Falls Church, Va, Us
While holding a position as a summer intern within the Mission Assurance department of Northrop Grumman Corporation – Electronic Systems (NGES), I was primarily tasked with the repair and rebuilding of a computer program used by numerous functional groups within NGES. It blends various data inputs, and, using a mathematical algorithm, produces a "score" for each supplier. As well, the tool can produce an individual report to send to a supplier. My primary function this past summer was to rebuild the tool, which became inoperable over a year ago. In that time frame I was successfully able to identify and correct the problems causing the program to fail, create a number of measures and variants to facilitate the use of this tool, generate over 10 instructional guides to aide both the first time users and experienced users with working the tool, and actually change the data inputs to make them less complicated and more efficient, producing more accurate results. Further, I successfully renovated the tool’s cosmetics making it appear more user friendly, and reducing its run time from a few minutes to a few seconds. As well, I assisted some of NGES' space programs in our warehouse facility, aiding with inspections, acceptances, and receiving items. At some points, I needed to inspect certain components of a radar system by comparing them to the scaled drawing to ensure their compliance both with NGES and our customers.
