Mango Saigon River Consortium (MSRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ho Chi Minh City to design, deploy, and demonstrate capability and scalability of 6 different and complementary urban sustainability prototypes, in support of the City's COP26 commitments toward a Net Zero 2050 horizon.

SmartBlock Communities tackles some of the most challenging crises facing the world today: climate change, affordable housing shortages, and environmental injustice. As a specialty developer, we assist Real Estate Developers in transforming their real estate projects into passive-house standard, microgrid-based "SmartBlocks" at no additional cost over the long-term, thanks to dramatic energy, water and transportation cost savings. SmartBlock Communities offers a whole-systems approach to urban sustainability that designs an affordable pathway to zero-carbon electricity, high-energy and -water efficiency, resilient power, and shared electric mobility across urban neighborhood blocks. Our experience draws from over half a decade of project managing the successful UC Berkeley Oakland EcoBlock project, and its published R&D.

The purpose of this project is to prototype the conversion of a typical neighborhood block from a high-energy, high-water dependency, to the lowest energy, water-use and waste-water treatment footprint possible.The objective is to prototype and blueprint an efficient, affordable, neighborhood block-scale energy, water and waste-water retrofitting process that can be adapted and applied to neighborhood blocks anywhere in the United States or the world.

* Initiated and managed a collaboration between the Presidio Graduate School and NASA Ames Research Center (Mountainview, CA) that made NASA patents available to Presidio graduates for commercialization.* Co-found the Oakland EcoBlock Project (see above); recruited the project's Bay Area science and engineering collaborators from NASA Ames Research Institute, Stanford, UC Berkeley; and enlisted residents of an Oakland neighborhood block to deploy the innovative urban project on their site.* Started Bay Area Sustainability Hub (BASH), a public-private initiative, to accelerate cost-effective, high-impact, urban climate-change solutions for California (later folded into the EcoBlock project).
