Griffith Enterprise is the commercialisation office of Griffith University. It is responsible for the identification, management and commercialisation of the intellectual assets and innovation of the University. As part of the University Senior staff and as a Business and Innovation Manager, I managed the commercial engagements, commercialisation, intellectual property and creation and implementation of the University’s business units/start-ups/spin-off activities (referred to as ‘Enterprises’) for the Arts, Education and Social Sciences schools and research centres.Key responsibilities:o Identify, develop, present and implement Enterprises and industry partnerships for the effective commercialisation exploitation of Griffith Intellectual Property, innovation, capabilities and services; o Drive generation of commercial research, consultancy and research development opportunities;o Identify intellectual property that is being developed, assess its commercial potential, ensure that the appropriate protection is sought, and generate strategies for the effective exploitation of the intellectual property. This entails licensing the intellectual property, establishment of Enterprises and/or creating and organising finance/capital for spin-off companies.o Raise awareness and support the development of a greater focus on and understanding of commercial considerations and imperatives amongst staff in the University. Mentor and coach staff to achieve successful business outcomes and ensure that the advice and tools are available and used by staff to engage effectively in commercialisation activities; Key achievements:o Generated over $5 million of industry and government funded contract research and consultancy projects since 2011;o In particular, generated a steady annual growth of commissioned research income for the Arts portfolio of 100% since 2011;o Created multiple Enterprises see below.

As Business Development Associate within Griffith Enterprise, I managed the commercialisation, intellectual property and business enterprise activities of the Arts, Education and Social Sciences Schools and Centres.

As a Senior Commercial Projects Officer, I managed projects valued up to $100,000.00 and was responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate management of their related contracts. I also drove the commercial tender activity at Griffith Enterprise and developed initiatives to help the University the reach its commercial and research goals through tendering activities. I worked across all academic portfolios of the University depending on demand. Key responsibilities:o On behalf of the university, processing and negotiating consultancy and commercial research (“CCR”) agreements between the university and industry and government clients;o Management of tender activity - procedures writing and implementation, coordination of tender teams and coaching of Griffith Enterprise staff during tender preparation phase;o Designing and delivering workshops to University staff and students on ‘How to write successful tenders’;o Performing legal reviews of CCR agreements in collaboration with the Legal Services Unit of the University; ando Performing commercial assessments of CCR agreements for projects up to $100,000.00 in value.Key achievements:o Created, developed and implemented new processes for the tender activities of the university, which are centralised in Griffith Enterprise. o Created, developed and implemented the ‘Proposal Toolbox, which provides a set of comprehensive tools and templates for Griffith Staff to easily create professional proposals and tenders;o Worked closely with the School of Education and Professional Studies in preparing successful tenders for Early Childhood Education projects for State Governments which ultimately increased Griffith University’s profile in Early Childhood Education nationally; ando Directly contributed to growth of the commissioned income generated by Griffith Enterprise tender activity.

Queensland Consulting Project Partners (acquired by Crown Projects in 2010) was a project management company. It focused primarily on international development infrastructure projects in the Asia-Pacific region. I joined the organisation in a Marketing Assistant Role, reporting to the CEO. I quickly progressed into the Marketing and Business Development Coordinator as I demonstrated competency in business development, marketing, contract management and tender management. Key responsibilities:o Management and coordination of all marketing business and business development activities both nationally and internationally;o Co-ordinated team resources for the production of complex competitive consulting services tenders; o Represented the company internationally for business development and project management purposes;o Provided coaching and ongoing tender training to engineers; ando Managed the Consultant Relationship Management system.Key achievements:o When I joined Queensland Consulting Project Partners, the company was exclusively targeting the South-East Asian and Pacific market. I suggested, created and successfully implemented market repositioning strategies to penetrate the Australian market and secure large projects in Queensland through business development activities including developing highly competitive infrastructure tenders - which eventually led to the successful M&A exercise with Crown Projects.
