Since I was a child, I have had an innate passion for invention and innovation. I would wake up every morning with my imagination buzzing, dashing, and tripping down the stairs, excited to manifest my imagination with a large tub full of assorted Lego pieces. I was never satisfied with buying Lego sets with set manuals and models: it almost felt unoriginal, like I was making something that someone had already conceived. I derived more satisfaction from carrying out my own plans and blueprints, as was apparent in my love of mathematics. I was fascinated with numbers and symbols, and I would even make my own math problems, just for my own amusement. Later, I was unknowingly finding shortcuts in calculus without even realizing they were established formulas that I would learn later in the curriculum. In this sense, building Lego sculptures and studying mathematics are one and the same: the idea that imagination and logical thinking go hand in hand in the field of engineering. My name is Anthony Park, and I am a Second Generation Korean American. I attend Texas A&M University to study mechanical engineering to achieve my goal of helping the world become a more efficient place.
