I approached Toronto Film School at the conclusion of my program, to discuss future course offerings at the university. I suggested that there was a need for a writing and communications-based class, where students would learn to effectively communicate their design ideas through creative writing, copy writing, and oral presentation. Now, the school’s program director and I are developing that very course, and rolling it out in the next academic term! I am beyond excited about the opportunity, and can’t wait to see the course's impact on the design students at TFS!!

Clearbanc Capital was designed to help founders fund the repeatable parts of their online businesses. As such, my role required extensive training in e-commerce and digital marketing, so that relevant financial strategies could be created for Clearbanc’s customers. What’s more, my role put me in constant conversation about the daily challenges that owners face while running their businesses. Purchasing inventory, paying for marketing, and managing ad-space online were the obstacles I helped our founders overcome. My personal and professional development was exponential through this chapter. And I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity.

Working on Bluboho’s creative team changed the direction of my career! I entered the company as a sales associate, grew to become a store manager, and then landed in a hybrid role that married my retail management background to the big wide world of creative! Within the Yonge Street Store, the role became a dance between store management, design, marketing, and e-commerce. And the various responsibilities allowed me to explore new interests within the company, and develop additional skills for my future. This was very much, another life and career changing experience for me.

Before assuming a role of Creative & Marketing Manager, I was the Store Manager of bluboho's Yonge-street store. This role demanded an “own the business” mentality, requiring each of us to have hands-on wherever necessary. Productivity management, people management, client relations and sales were my daily focuses, and they all helped me become the leader I am today!

I started my bluboho journey as a Sales Associate, or "Connector", in the company's Yonge Street Store. I was responsible for connecting the neighbouring community to our store and brand. In this role, I discovered my natural ability to find new audiences and create long term relationships with them. And as a team, we hit our performance goals pretty quickly, and therefore, were each rewarded with promotions. In a little over one month with the company, I became a Store Manager, while my former manager went on to open another store. This really lit my fire and set the pace for my future with the company.

Club Monaco taught me how to be a leader in the retail space. I reported directly to the Store, and Associate Store Managers, and was responsible for the store’s eight other managers and associates. This was my first exposure to high-level management and definitely provided the knowledge base that propelled me to success in my subsequent retail leadership roles. In this role, I was responsible for ensuring that our Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) were met, while also creating strategies for improvements in our productivity, processes, presentation and people.

This role taught me how to sell! I learned how to manage my performance and adjust my selling strategy according to changing goals, "low-hanging fruit", and company objectives. In 2017, I sold over a million dollars, in a 12.5 million dollar year. As a team, we were recognized for being the highest selling store relative to our size, and for being a top selling store in our tier. It was A RUSH every day! And really ignited my passion for customer service and sales.
