This position combined the work of design engineering and on-site operations and commissioning of mining water treatment facilities.Design engineering work included designing criteria of and generating deliverable such as:-P&IDs-PFDs-General Arangement Diagrams-Equipment Lists-Instrument ListsThe design portion of this role also included the procurement of equipment and instrument from local and international vendors.On-site work included everything from operations support, conducting the commissioning of new and retrofitted facilities, and project managing the development of plant expansions.

Responsible for producing technical drawings and 3D models of production equipment using CAD software. These drawings and models are the blueprints for the fabrication of vessels, structures, equipment, and entire brewhouse systems.I also provided engineering support to other departments and coordinated deliverables to project management. Technical drawings include: Detailed bill of materials specifying material selection, dimensions, design requirements, welding details, sheet bending detail, stock codes, vendors, and ASME certified requirements.I regularly analyzed material usages for cost/benefit analysis for clients. I also produced supporting files such as DXFs for plasma/water cutting and purchasing files. Lastly, I worked side by side with fabricators during construction ensuring any problems have timely and feasible engineering solutions. Applying that knowledge to the process, preventing future instances, is what made my work valuable to the company.

My main roles were to operate a 3000L brewing system, operate distillation columns, and maintain multiple healthy cultures of yeast by performing sample analysis and data interpretation. The production facility would yield 100,000L of beer and 3000L of spirit every month. Brewing on a large scale is process engineering at heart, working in harmony with microbiology. I’m very familiar with fermenters, distillation columns, pumps, mills, augers, filters, and all the equipment associated with operating a production facility. I made it my personal business to constantly improve and update the current operating procedures to ensure the products continue to be among the best in Vancouver. Here I was able to develop my creative side where my recipes came to life as commercial products. I was the team lead of installation and repair of equipment such as pumps, basic electrical components, compressed gas supply, etc. I was often tasked with design and/or assembly of custom equipment to perform specific tasks for the purpose of making day-to-day jobs more efficient. Over time, I became the most versatile and flexible employee on the production team by taking initiative and applying my engineering background.

My responsibilities included preparing and packaging our products for consumer purchase, assessing manpower needed to execute weekly orders, operating automated packaging equipment, distillation, and decontamination/sterilization. I trained and lead a staff of packaging employees and worked in parallel with the brewers, assisting in hands on tasks. Working here has not only given me ample knowledge of packaging and distillation, but it has also taught me how to be a good leader, and how to communicate effectively.
