I have accepted an appointment by the District of Columbia Mayor, Muriel Bowser, to serve as the Real Estate Broker member on The DC Board of Real Estate Appraisers.The DC Board of Real Estate Appraisers regulates the practice of real estate appraisal, including the functions of a state appraiser certifying and licensing agency under Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989, approved August 9, 1989. Additionally, the Board protects consumers by enforcing the District of Columbia real estate license law PDF. The real estate license law is defined by the District of Columbia Second Omnibus Regulatory Act of 1998 (Omnibus), which took effect on April 20, 1999.The Board consists of five members appointed by the Mayor. Three members shall be real estate appraisers licensed in the District, one shall be a real estate broker licensed in the District, and one shall be a consumer member.

On February 16, 1938 in what was the very segregated capital city of Washington, D.C. four African American real estate brokers met in a conference room within the 12th Street YMCA to establish the Washington Real Estate Brokers Association (WREBA). These founding fathers Joseph H. Green, Thomas W. Parks, John R. Pinkette, Sr., and James E. Scott foresaw that greater opportunities were likely to occur for African American if African American real estate brokers were to create business and housing strategies that would ultimately help many to own a piece of the proverbial “rock”, and hereby share in the American Dream.

The African American Real Estate Professionals (AAREP) was founded in Washington, DC in May of 1995. AAREP began as a small, informal group of individuals who provided friendship, support and encouragement to one another. This small group has grown to become a full-fledged professional association with a network of over 800+ people, all involved in some aspect of commercial real estate. AAREP’s mission statement, “To lead in the intellectual, professional and economic development of African American real estate professionals,” sets the tone for the organization’s programs and activities, and challenges each member to do their part to ensure the continued success of AAREP.

Served as Chapter President. Chapter experienced phenominal membership growth during my tenure. Accomplishments lead to my election to the CCIM Institute Board of Directors.

The mission of the Board of Real Property Assessments and Appeals (BRPAA) is to conduct fair and impartial real property assessment appeal hearings for commercial and residential property owners of the District of Columbia. The board’s objective is to ensure that appellants’ real properties are assessed at 100 percent of market value, based on properties similar in size and utility, so that an equitable tax burden is shared.The Board is comprised of eighteen real estate professionals, all who shall be residents of the District of Columbia. Board members shall be active members of the District of Columbia Bar with real estate experience, District of Columbia certified general real estate appraisers, District of Columbia licensed residential real estate appraisers, certified public accountants, mortgage bankers, licensed District of Columbia real estate brokers, or persons possessing significant real property experience.
