For my entire professional and personal life I have shown my greatest potential and imagination in writing and putting disparate concepts together, reinforced by my involvement with a variety of activities that all converge upon research design, leadership, and medical writing and publishing. This begins with being a strict grammarian and editor with a background at the Columbia School of Journalism, but then progressing to medical writing as I became a graduate student in biochemistry at Harvard Medical School and then a Staff Fellow at the NIH in Bethesda. I first made it a goal to apply my training in enzyme action and ligand interactions with allosteric proteins to managing breast cancer screening, in which I developed assay methods to determine tamoxifen sensitivity in vitro, applied to the cytoplasmic estrogen receptor. I made a transition from bench research to grants administration, first in the chemistry department at Brandeis University and then in a joint program in Newborn Medicine involving three Harvard teaching hospitals. These tools enabled me to become a Director of Research and Education at a nonprofit foundation, the most productive and gratifying engagement that enabled me to manage all stages of grants awarded to scores of basic and clinical research investigations worldwide, in which I mentored researchers to the point at which many were able to publish for the first time in their lives and apply for federal grants for which they previously were ineligible. In this role I designed, organized, and chaired over 15 international conferences, presenting at scores more in Canada, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Iceland, and China and fulfilling my love of travel. In bringing disparate concepts and parties together, I was looked upon as an ambassador in enabling doctors and researchers grounded in either orthodox or alternative medicine to collaborate successfully. Because the Foundation sadly closed after 65 years of existence, I ended up primarily as a medical writer, serving as Editor-in-Chief of a medical journal with a 30-year history, serving various roles in industry and freelance and ultimately assuming a part-time role as Research Director at the University of Western States , a professional teaching institution engaged in integrative medicine. My goal is to return to a more active role as a writer, interpreter, organizer, and presenter of medical information for clients, publishers, and medical conferences.
