About Anthony Salvatore Abate

As an experienced international development specialist focusing on democracy promotion and youth development in Latin America and North Africa, I have more than 10 years of experience working both on the ground with international development associations and in Washington, DC, focusing on international democracy promotion grants. While serving in the U.S. Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer, I partnered with local, rural community development associations to assist them in identifying their strengths and capacity building. I used the skills and knowledge I gained while working at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), one of the United States’ most prestigious international grant making apparatuses, to facilitate the efficiency and competiveness of startup development associations. In my role as Project Coordinator for Digital Media at the NED’s Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA), I served as a point person for the entire international media development field both in Washington and abroad to disseminate news and reports about the state of independent media development around the world. I employed my experience researching, editing, and fact-checking dozens of reports published by CIMA.I speak and write English, Spanish, and Portuguese at a high professional level and also speak Moroccan Arabic, allowing me to effectively communicate with a wide range of international actors. Specialties: Youth Development, History, Latin America, North Africa, Digital Media, Event Planning and Management, Research, Report Writing, Grant Evaluation
