Interim role teaching IB Physics HL/SL, IGCSE Science (Physics) and Y9 Science & Mathematics. Leading on Science Department Health & Safety and member of campus Health & Safety Committee.

As the founding head of department, I led the development of the department’s academic and administrative processes, directly managing the IGCSE and International A-Level Physics courses. Examination results during my tenure were extremely positive, despite the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic (A-Level Physics 2020 results: A*A*C; AS results: 2019 75% A-C, 100% A-E [4 students]; 2020 68% A-C 100% A-E [8 students]; IGCSE Physics 2019 results: 100% A*-C [15 students]; 2020 results: 94% A*-C, 100% A*-E [18 students]). In addition, I was responsible for the Grade 11 (UK Y12) cohort’s academic and pastoral management, including careers advice and guidance, pastoral support and performance advice.I served as the secondary phase representative on the school’s health & safety committee, leading on school-wide fire safety management and the delivery of staff training and was the subject-specialist mentor for a chemistry-specialist iPGCE student measuring performance against the UK Teacher Standards. I also led an organisational change to the science delivery model in the middle school. During the Covid-19 epidemic, I was appointed interim Examinations Officer, designing and coordinating our school-wide preparation, collation and submission of predicted grades to the appropriate examination bodies.

Lead for Physics subject at GCSE and A-Level in high-performing South London Academy. Line management responsibility for three Physics teachers, Senior Science Technician, mentor to a Research in Schools PhD trainee teacher and support for two PGCE teachers. Additional responsibility for Health & Safety across Science including membership of the school Heath & Safety Committee. Overall functional management of science technician team.

Working in the International Division in association with EduChina as one of five foreign teachers in this high-performing school preparing students aged 15-18 for university in the USA. Preparing and delivering lessons in English to non-native speakers, I covered a diverse range of skills & subjects, from Reading & Writing and Speaking & Listening to American Literature, Culture & History.

Working within the Mathematics & Science Learning School, I was responsible for the leadership and management of the four-person Physics Department, including curriculum design, teaching & learning quality, assessment quality and performance management. During my tenure, my team delivered 92% A*-C GCSE Physics results within a mixed-ability 140 student cohort and substantial improvements in A-Level Physics performance.

A temporary post delivering 11-19 science (Physics post-14). Additionally, I supported two associate (trainee) teachers, supervising their lessons and providing critical feedback and development targets on a lesson-by-lesson basis.

A new role created to address deficiencies in the Academy's e-Learning provision, combined with my assessment and reporting responsibilities and classroom teacher role.

Appointed to the project team prior to opening in August 2010 of the first UniversityTechnical College to conceive and establish the Academy's science department. I managed a circa £60k initial operating budget, liaised with internal and external stakeholders, whilst recruiting and managing the five science department staff, establishing relevant policies and procedures. In addition, I held responsibility for the assessment aspects of the Academy MIS and VLE portfolios, including design, processes and reporting systems, fundamental to Academy-Parent communications.

Initial teaching post following qualification as a Teacher of Science with focus on Physics. Included responsibility for the organisation of GCSE and A-Level Physics programmes, purchasing and grant applications and the introduction of external speakers and an after-school GCSE Astronomy.Additionally held posts as Lead Teacher of Science (with Key Stage Three curriculum development responsibility) and Lead Teacher of Student Leadership (introducing prefect systems and the Duke of Edinburgh Award to the school).
