Ross Travis is a professional Actor, Bouffon, Clown and Circus Performer. In 2010 he took a Bouffon Intensive with Master Teacher Dodi DiSanto in Washington DC and went on to study the form in greater depth with Master Teacher Giovanni Fusetti in Boulder, Colorado that same year. This is where he developed what became his first solo bouffon show, Apocalyptika, a satirical romp that takes a sledgehammer to the convenient stories we tell ourselves about how our world will end. He also played multiple roles in their production of Odyssey on the Alma. The Alma is one of the historic boats in Maritime Park. Ross’ characterization of Cyklops was hailed by SF Weekly as “a comic marvel.” Ross did a 40 show school tour in Alameda County of Mulchini’s Kitchen, a play about recycling with the New Pickle Circus and recently played multiple roles, including The Incurable Disease, in Taylor Mac’s epic 5-hour spectacle, The Lily’s Revenge at the Magic Theatre. Artistic DirectorAntic In A Drain 2014 - PresentSan Francisco Bay AreaFounded in 2014, Antic in a Drain uses the grotesque satirical physical theatre form of bouffon to develop extreme characters and tell stories from the fringes, igniting dialogue and change within communities around ignored or taboo social issues. From 2014 to 2016, Antic developed and performed The Greatest Monkey Show On Earth, which makes the audience complicit in the objectification of animals for human entertainment and the disastrous consequences of such practices. The show toured to the Edmonton and Vancouver Fringe Festivals in Canada that same year, receiving a four-star review from Global News and the inaugural Artistic Risk Award in Vancouver. In 2016, the show was nominated for two Theatre Bay Area Awards for Makeup and Costume Design and won for Costume Design. In 2015, Antic received an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission and a Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant to create and develop Bucko: Whaleman!, a 90 minute site specific work which hijacks the audience into a whaling voyage where they become colluders in a destructive plot to kill a record number of whales to harvest their oil for capital gain. Bucko premiered on Hyde Street Pier at San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park in 2017.

Performer/EducatorSan Francisco Maritime National Park Association Nov 2011 - May 2015Hyde Street PierThe year is 1906, and the students, or "lads," are immersed in an eighteen hour journey through the past. As "green" hands on their overnight stint aboard a historic vessel, they must learn to step lively and gain the necessary skills to set sail on the evening tide.Under the watchful eyes of the ship's officers, crews receive their orders and are expected to carry them out independently. The lads must listen carefully and utilize their resources to solve problems such as throwing a heaving line, rigging a bosun's chair or cooking for the entire crew on a wood burning stove. The program encourages students to develop self-confidence and self-reliance, which in turn fosters a sense of responsibility for themselves, their shipmates, and their community.

Actor In Odyssey On AlmaWe Players Aug 2011 - Nov 2011San Francisco Bay AreaIn a unique partnership with San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, We Players is adapting Homer's epic poem for presentation aboard Alma, weaving together this archetypical tale of travel, exploration, and home-coming with the Park's interpretive themes, and Alma's own layered local history. Each performance will take place during a three-hour sail on San Francisco Bay, as the cast and crew weave real-time line handling with Homer's stirring account of weary seafarers striking sail for home. At the conclusion of the sail, all passengers are requested to continue the adventure and join the performers and crew for feedback, storytelling and a light reception aboard historic ferryboat Eureka. NOTE: These performances aboard Alma are the first phase of We Players' multi-year exploration of the arc of leaving home, journeying, and returning, via Homer's ancient epic, The Odyssey. -
