CIVILS DESIGN COORDINATOR FOR THE ELECTRICITY ALLIANCE CENTRAL, a joint venture between ABB, Morgan Est, Atkins and National Grid. This 5- year project was created to build and extend substations across the Northwest and Midlands. I managed the design verification and assurance interfaces on Alliance projects and liaised between the ABB electrical layout engineers and our Civils Design consultant. This involved checking of design drawings for completeness and buildability, managing the design approval process to be able to issue drawings for construction, liaising with site teams, consultants and JV partners, managing of design trackers and ensuring that designs were produced in line with site works programmes.Further I was involved in the production of Design Intend Documents for planned projects.

The Lloyds Ironbridge

I was based as Senior Engineer on a road underpinning project for the Borough of Telford & Wrekin (contract value ~£3.7 million). There I was responsible for supervising the site engineer, ordering materials, producing QA documentation, supervision of and dealing with subcontractors, site inductions, acting as assistant project manager, liaising with Client to agree changes to the Client’s design and providing information to the QS to substantiate claims for additional work and extension of time claims.

A1M Darrington To Dishforth Section 1

QA COORDINATOR for Section 1 on the A1M Darrington to Dishforth project (£235 million D&B project). I provided major input into collating handover documents for the client, managing the QA systems on Section 1 and managing site and section engineers to complete QA documentation. Later I was responsible for the supervision of a bridge refurbishment over the old A1, supervision of the fencing subcontractor and completion of accommodation works in addition to my QA role. .

Midlands

SECTION ENGINEER and later ACTING SITE AGENT on two sewage treatment work extensions, forming part of the Severn Trent Water 742A Contract for the upgrade of 5no sewage treatment works (part of AMP 3). My role encompassed being the sole supervisor of two sites, including the management of all Health and Safety aspects, programming of works, production of risk assessments and method statements, all material ordering, dimensional control, supervision of subcontractors, dealing with the Client and providing commercial input to assist QS with claims for additional work.

M6 Toll Section 4

I worked on the construction of this £435 million construction of a new motorway. My responsibilities included dimensional control of a major motorway link bridge over M42, producing risk assessments and method statements, carrying out checks on site work and producing associated QA, keeping of detailed site diaries and supervision of subcontractors. Later I was responsible for the construction of gantry bases and the supervision of closing out of finishing items.

North-West Of England

SITE ENGINEER: As part of my degree I completed a year in industry, working for Birse Civils on two sewage treatment work extensions and the construction of a new car park and spine road for a DIY superstore.

Hannover, Germany

Three year apprenticeship as traditional carpenter with German contractor `Hochtief` (mainly roof construction and erection, timber frames). Following this I worked as a `journeyman` carpenter for a small contractor in the yard and on site until my move to England to start my University degree.
