About Antonio Martini
I'm Professor at University of Oslo. My latest interests are on using AI for software engineering, specifically for technical debt and software architecture, and to improve software engineering practices for AI. In general, my research focus is on managing Technical Debt, Architecture, Technical Leadership, and Agile software development. I'm very keen to work with software companies and improve the state of art and practice together.My experience covers Software Engineering and Management in several contexts: large, embedded software companies, small, web companies, business to business companies, startups. My expertise ranges from technical programming to software architecture and software quality, to Agile ways of working and software business. I've collaborated with several large companies such as Ericsson, Volvo, Saab, Axis, Grundfos, Siemens, Bosch and Jeppesen, Siemens, Visma, Knowit, AKVA Group and more.I've also worked with my own company and I've run projects with Ericsson EPG and one with Volvo IT to manage and visualize Technical Debt. I've been employed as a Postdoc Researchers at Chalmers, after having obtained a PhD in Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in 2015.

I have developed a multidisciplinary profile able to study and solve software engineering challenges in industrial contexts by connecting theoretical, technological and social aspects. PhD - I have obtained my PhD in Software Engineering on the 27th of November 2015. The title of my thesis was "Ambidexterity in Large Scale Software Engineering": how do large software companies balance short-term and long-term business goals? The answers are related to both technical and organizational aspects.Research Team - I have been part of a research team including Jan Bosch, Lars Pareto, Michel Chaudron and Matthias Tichy I've led a research project within the Software Center, a consortium of academia and industry, involving several 8 international large software companies.Architectural Technical Debt - The focus of my research was on the phenomenon called Architectural Technical Debt: a financial metaphor that represents sub-optimal architectural solutions taken as debt that needs to be repaid in the future with extra-effort (interest). The metaphor has very recently been studied in the Software Engineering Scientific Community and is of high interest in industry. Agile Architecting - In the context of the recent shift towards Large-scale Agile Software Development, we are developing an organizational framework, CAFFEA, including architecture activities and roles for Architecture management in large organizations employing Agile.Theses supervision - I've supervised and led to a successful outcome 4 Master Theses. All the theses were run in large software organizations such as Ericsson and Volvo Cars. The focus was on developing tools and methods to manage Technical Debt.Teaching courses - I've been course responsible for the Software Product Line Engineering course at the Master Program in Software Engineering at Chalmers and Gothenburg University. I've also been Teaching Assistant in the Model Driven Engineering and in the Agile Project course.
