ANWAG is a coalition of pro bono advocacy groups working to advance legislative and regulatory reform within EEOICPA. ANWAG advocates provide technical assistance to EEOICPA claimants filing compensation claims; advocates lobby Congressional delegations and regulatory agencies.Successfully lobbied the CDC FOIA Office and NIOSH to reverse its fee waiver policy to permit blanket fee waivers for advocates including development and writing of correspondence addressed to federal agencies and Congressional delegations; and press releasesPetitioned NIOSH for regulatory reform with the support of the NY and Colorado Congressional delegations. Successfully conceived and executed advocacy campaign with Congressional delegations across the country.

Leading and managing pro bono project to gain compensation for Manhattan Project and Cold War Department of Energy employees under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Successfully directed effort to win compensation benefits for sickened workers resulting in a minimum of $60,000,000 awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Labor. In 2000 Congress enacted EEOICPA with the intent of compensating sickened workers unwittingly exposed to radiation and other toxins. I have successfully advocated for these workers over the past ten years on the national level with a specific focus on Western New York workers from the Linde Ceramics facility. I have gained knowledge of workplace safety issues including knowledge of radiological and toxin exposure pathways; recruited a volunteer national network of experts; lobbied government agencies via a combined strategy of political advocacy, media outreach, and supporting federal court litigation; consulted with occupational health experts; and lobbied the Advisory Board on Radiation and Worker Health.

Advocate/volunteer for Legal Voice, an organization that works to advance women’s rights in the Northwest; currently serving on Legal Voice’s Violence Against Women policy workgroup with a focus on combating and confronting abusive litigation directed against domestic violence survivors. Developing and writing a chapter for the Domestic Violence Manual for Washington State judges focused on identifying and combating abusive litigation, including a section addressing the potential use of Washington’s Anti-SLAPP law as a tool for domestic violence survivors to use when confronted with abusive litigation. Also developing a chapter for the Domestic Violence Manual for Washington State judges focused on LGBT domestic violence.I developed legislative research and analysis for Legal Voice’s 2015 legislative agenda. This agenda included reform measures for rape kit testing and rape kit backlog transparency, revenge porn criminal legislation and civil remedies, domestic violence survivor employment protections, and affirmative consent standards regarding the college sexual assault crisis. I have worked closely on this legislative agenda resulting in the enactment of revenge porn criminal and civil remedies legislation in Washington State as well as rape kit reform legislation. Advancing a rape kit reform agenda in Washington State has involved working closely with the Washington State legislature to (1) further legislative reform, (2) pursue funding dollars from state, federal, private business, and foundation resources to eliminate Washington State’s rape kit backlog and investigate sexual assault cold cases, and (3) research and develop best practice resources to establish victim-centered and trauma informed training practices for law enforcement and prosecutors.
