Senior Engineering Manager, Amazon CloudfrontAmazon Web Services (Aws) Jan 2014 - Nov 2017Seattle, Wa, UsAmazon CloudFront was my first role at AWS. I held numerous roles over almost 4 years working on the service. I started off developing DNS performance routing capabilities, and when I left the team I was the head of engineering for the CDN globally. This role encompassed ensuring the CDN was highly available, performant, functionally met the needs of a broad customer base and was resilient in the face of failure or DDoS attack. The team made several innovations during my time there which have allowed the CDN to scale in the face of an ever growing customer base and attacker footprint. I was also responsible for scaling the CDN from it's early network footprint of less than 30 PoPs (points of presence) to >150 in less than 4 years. We faced significant hardware, software and organizational challenges to scale 4-5x to meet the ever increasing content delivery demands of the internet. It was a great ride, filled with some of the hardest computer science problems I have faced to date.
