Project Engineer working on the development of the autonomous system for the CFS23 formula-style race car with focus on localization and mapping. Was also the Autonomous System Responsible, ensuring safety during the operation of the vehicle through rigorous safety checks, protocols and usage of a remote emergency stop system. The result of the system was an overall victory in the worlds largest engineering competition for students, Formula Student Germany, and the fastest skidpad time in the Formula Student East competition.- Implemented, tested and validated a FastSLAM 2.0-based algorithm to localize and map in real time for an application with velocities up to 20m/s and turn rates of 150 deg/s. This was done using several improvements to the original algorithm with techniques from cutting-edge research in the subject.- Designed, implemented, tested and validated a multithreaded GraphSLAM-based algorithm for real-time localization and mapping in the same application using the g2o-library for optimization.- Implemented, tested and validated a speed planner using a curvature based approach considering the available traction forces. Additionally implemented and tested a speed controller using a combined feedback and feedforward strategy.- Computationally optimized the solving and formulation of our Model Predictive Controller for steering to achieve sub millisecond solutions. This allowed running the controller at a higher frequency, increasing responsiveness and stability of the system.
