From 2013 to 2021, I served as the Co-convenor of the Seabird Bycatch Working Group of ACAP, the preeminent scientific body on seabird bycatch in fisheries, and ways to mitigate this bycatch. During this period, I also worked as a freelance environmental consultant, in which capacity I have undertaken work for the ACAP Secretariat, BirdLife International, BirdLife South Africa, the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, the Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands, and the South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute (SAERI), mostly on issues relating to seabird and island conservation, and particularly seabird bycatch associated with commercial fisheries. I am currently the chair of the Redford Conservancy, a community-based conservation organisation in the Garden Route of South Africa, and work seasonally (during the austral summer) as a lecturer and guide on expedition ships visiting the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions. I served on the Executive Committee of the Third World Seabird Conference. I have, since 2019, served as a non-executive Director of the Board of the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB). Show less

Co-ordinated the provision of conservation advice on albatrosses and petrels to the UK Overseas Territory governments in the South Atlantic (Falkland Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, British Antarctic Territory, and Tristan da Cunha) and the UK central/metropolitan government, including identifying priority research, monitoring and management (including policy) needs, and designing and implementing programmes to meet these needs
