Kard: A series A technology startup with a rewards and loyalty network for modern credit card issuers. The company is differentiated by its proprietary rewards matching and aggregation software, API-based platform, and seamless and customizable user experience.My role: I was the second hire on Kard's data team, with responsibilities across product, merchant and issuer growth, and some core engineering capabilities.Accomplishments:- I've built a large codebase for forecasting demand for campaigns of increasing complexity. This includes segmenting cardholders based on purchasing activity, enforcing purchase size and frequency limits and reward size limits, and other features. This has enabled many forecasts not previously possible, reduced the time required by up to 90%, and drastically improved campaign pacing accuracy (burning the correct budget in the correct time frame).- I've researched new ways to leverage data in merchant sales and campaign structuring, using advanced user segmentation and competitive analysis. Some examples: - Clustering disengaged members of a multinational retailer, proposing a novel campaign to reach them, and pitching the benefits to both issuers and merchants. - Analyzing market share of a national food chain and its competitors in select Californian cities. This informs both the campaign structure for this merchant and critical product features around location targeting.- I've designed and run embedded experiments to prove sales lift and increased customer engagement. This information, a frequent but (until recently) unfulfilled request from merchants, will empower sales and marketing teams.- I've also built self-service tools for teams at Kard to track and optimize burn on live campaigns, automate billing processes, view business health metrics, and estimate spend for potential customers.

Argo AI: $7.25B joint venture between Volkswagen and Ford, building autonomous driving technology for urban vehicles. It had 1,700 employees and self-driving cars on the streets of Pittsburgh, Palo Alto, Austin, and Miami. The company's closest competitors were Waymo and Cruise.My role: I was a junior member of the 10-person data science team, where we built machine learning models to assess and predict the performance of the company's self-driving cars. Those findings went to company leadership and engineering.Accomplishments: I assessed the importance of features in the cars' situations and settings, formalized our models in a daily build system, and helped to define a dynamic actors-based model to expand the team's collection of methods.

CEWIT: An incubator for wireless and information technology at Stony Brook University.My role: I analyzed Medicaid datasets in New York state, doing basic data mining with the goal to identify hidden health trends. My methods included generalized linear modeling and data visualization.

Research project (PREEVENTS): A $25M, NSF-funded project involving multiple universities across the globe. The goal was to predict the catastrophic failure of landslides in northern California, which recently had occurred more frequently and disastrously.My role: I researched under the professor and a PhD student in the Buscarnera Group at Northwestern University, numerically solving soil saturation models and running computer simulations of landslides.Accomplishments: In addition to running simulations (bottom-up approach), I contributed a data-driven time series method (top-down approach) to incorporate historical precipitation and soil displacement data from surrounding areas.
