Since obtaining my PhD, I have gained extensive site experience in South Africa and Mozambique, working as a materials engineer on the Gorongosa to Caia and Maputo Marrecuene road projects; and was the resident engineer for the construction of the Inchope overloading control facility. I have worked in the Pavement Evaluation and Materials Division at Aurecon's head office in South Africa, where I have gained extensive experience in mechanistic pavement analysis techniques. I have also been involved in studies and investigations on pavement deflection analysis and the detail design of roads. I have been involved in the monitoring of a number of research road sections including those in Ireland (asphalt overlay), Mozambique (sand emulsions), and South Africa (single and Cape seals).In 2007, I was appointed manager of Aurecon's Geostrada Engineering Materials Laboratory, which provides commercial and site laboratory testing services for engineering and infrastructure related developments. I directly managed more than 200 employees with a business of R50 million revenue (2010 base year) During his time there, I was instrumental in growing the unit's influence and revenue base considerably. In 2011, I re-joined Aurecon's Transportation Infrastructure team, representing an exciting return to his original passion for the design of effective transportation infrastructure for Aurecon's diverse client base. Since then, I have worked extensively on railway projects in specific the design of railway formations, rehabilitation of existing formation pavement layers and high level material mass-haul analysis. During this time I have also been involved in research related to railway formation analysis, DCP design method for low volume road design and the testing of tropical soils. I am currently also acting as pavement design specialist advisor to the Independent Engineer on the N3 toll road between Heidelberg and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
