    * Was hired by the company as their first web developer. Although the company was not new, we were small, privately owned, and very much had a startup mentality.* With their trust, I grew the team to 13 developers and eventually split my team between software development, network administration, systems administration (Digital Unix and then Linux), and team management.* Responsible for architecture and development of an E-commerce platform selling digital information using both a shopping cart and month-to-month subscription plans. In the early-days of the Internet, this was originally coded in Perl, later converted to C for processing efficiency, and eventually to a traditional LAMP stack.* In 2000, leveraging Open Source technologies we built one of the first online horse racing wagering platforms which was eventually acquired by Churchill Downs, Inc. I coded a custom-built transactional processing and queueing system to process wagers, the real-time data feed consumption, and parts of the front end. I oversaw the architecture and the development effort. I also configured servers, databases, and a multi-homed network with firewalls, load balancers, and security appliances.
