“Experimental and theoretical study of the behavior of different labyrinth seal designs"This project was part of an innovation project looking for a new efficient labyrinth seal design.The main objective was to set in place an experimental set-up on existing SKF test rigs in order to study and visualize the ingress of water and contamination into a labyrinth seal.By running a DOE on different geometrical and application related parameters (such as speed), the equations… Show more “Experimental and theoretical study of the behavior of different labyrinth seal designs"This project was part of an innovation project looking for a new efficient labyrinth seal design.The main objective was to set in place an experimental set-up on existing SKF test rigs in order to study and visualize the ingress of water and contamination into a labyrinth seal.By running a DOE on different geometrical and application related parameters (such as speed), the equations governing the performance of labyrinth seals have been derived.Moreover the experimental results have been compared to computed fluid dynamics (CFD) operated on OpenFoam software, and have allowed to adjust and improve the former modelling models. Presented the project outputs to the Sealing & Polymers department.Acquired important supplementary skills during this internship, developed autonomy, problem-analysing capacity and overall engineering experiences.
