Antonio Andreoni is Professor of Development Economics at the Department of Economics, SOAS University of London and Co-Director of the SOAS Centre for Sustainable Structural Transformation (CSST). At SOAS, Antonio is Deputy Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange of the College of Develompment, Economics and Finance (CODEF). He is also Honorary Professor at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose, University College London, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development, University of Johannesburg. In 2021 Antonio also received the ASN Habilitation to Full Professor in Economics from the Italian Ministry of University and Research.Antonio has published extensively on production dynamics, technological change, and social conditions of innovation; structural transformation, GVCs, industrial ecosystems; financialisation and corporate change; political economy of industrial policy and energy transition; competition policy, digitalisation, platform economy. His publications include articles in World Development, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Cambridge Journal of Regions Economy and Society, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, Oxford Review of Economic Policy, Technovation, Competition and Change, Development and Change, European Journal of Development Research, Health Policy and Planning, Journal of Industrial and Business Economics, and Energy Policy. His books include: 'Structural Transformation in South Africa: The challenges of Inclusive Industrial Development in a Middle-income Country' (with: Pamela Mondliwa, Simon Roberts and Fiona Tregenna), Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2021 & 'From Financialization to Innovation in UK Big Pharma: AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline' (with Oner Tulum and William Lazonick), Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2022He is a co-Editor of Competition and Change (SAGE) and of the European Journal of Development Research (Palgrave).He has been advisor for several international organisations including UNIDO, UNCTAD, ILO, UNDP, UN ECA, World Bank and OECD, as well as national governments in industrial policy making, including European Commission, UK, Finland, Portugal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Mauritius. In 2023 he was economic advisor to the EU DG GROW. He has also worked with think tanks and foundations including The Gatsby Foundation, The African Climate Foundation and ODI.Antonio holds a PhD from Cambridge University and is Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge.
