Over the course of over 18 years at IBM, I have had the opportunity to work on a multitude of projects involving cutting-edge technology. In particular, my role as a Software Developer and Technical Evangelist has employed both my software engineering and technical marketing skills.Because of my role, I've become an early adopter of several technologies, including the field of Cloud computing, Big Data, and in more recent times, Data Science and AI (particularly, chatbots and IBM Watson Assistant). I'm also a very early adopter of Ruby and Ruby on Rails (since late 2004) and Django (since 2006) and have been credited for bringing both to IBM.The technical advocate side of my job requires me to be a bridge between the software development community and IBM, with the ultimate goal of educating, showcasing and demoing to the community our vast array of technology products, particularly data analytics and cognitive ones. This includes both online and offline efforts, helping me develop community building and organizing skills. I'm the Marketing Lead for Cognitive Class, a site I helped grow to over a million learners world wide (organically, without a marketing budget).Besides programming, data science, and AI, I have a great deal of interest in technical writing, marketing, blogging, social media, and the world of entrepreneurship and startups in general. (I've written and presented on the subject extensively.)I'm an advocate for diversity in tech. In the Summer of 2015, I had the privilege of being on assignment in San Francisco as a Software Development Mentor for the IBM Analytics LEADing to Africa internship, in which twenty amazing interns (mostly from Africa) were working with my guidance on data-oriented, social good software projects.Currently, I'm a manager at IBM where I lead a fantastic team of developers and data scientists.My main goal is to always improve myself and positively affect other people in the process. My personal mission is to make the complex, simpler.
