MediaOn is an Online Journalism Seminar that takes place annually since 2007 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Brazil has a fast-growing media industry and represents a major frontier for a massive use of Internet. A group of brazilian journalists, with large professional experience, is in charge of international conference of Online Journalism, an idea that is sponsored by Terra, the major portal in Brazil, and Itau Cultural, a non-profit organization devoted also to promote debates that help the civil society.MediaOn was created in 2007 by Internet professionals concerned about creating a forum to debate online journalism. The event’s curators are Antonio Prada, Jaime Spitzcovsky and Fernanda Cerávolo.During the last editions of the event we could count on professionals from BBC, New York Times, CNN, Globo, Facebook, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Pro-Publica, Google, Microsoft, Terra, Clarín, Folha de São Paulo, Estado de São Paulo, Abril and so on.

On October 18, 1999, Antonio Prada took up as content manager at ZAZ, a web portal and national internet provider owned by the RBS media group. He was responsible for hiring the team and implementing the concept of real-time news. At the time, the portal was an audience leader in Brazil, sharing the first position with the UOL web portal.When the Telefónica group acquired ZAZ, he became content manager of the Terra portal for the Brazilian market. He coordinated the creation and operation of the content area, which was based on real-time news, services, videos and entertainment. He was responsible for the launching of Terra TV, and led the creation of the first internet TV studio in Latin America. Among other projects he coordinated innovative and pioneering initiatives such as the online coverage of elections in Brazil and of major international sports events (2002, 2006, 2010 World Cups; 2000, 2004, 2008 Olympic Games) as well . At the same time, he was responsible for the portal’s Partnerships department.In 2007 he took up as Director of Content and Product at the Terra portal for Latin America & the US, becoming responsible for content and product strategy and for teams that work in newsrooms and labs at 8 countries: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, US and Spain. He is also head of product development (information architecture, design, user experience, SEO, Metrics). He leaded Terra’s four major content projects: the live coverage and transmission of the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008), Fifa World Cup in South Africa (2010), Pan American Games in Guadalajara (2011) and of the Olympic Games in London (2012) for Internet, tablets and mobile.
Antonio Prada began his career at Diário do Grande ABC, one of Brazil’s main regional daily newspapers, where he held several positions: music critic, reporter, editor of the Arts section, managing editor, and editor-in-chief. In 1994 he was responsible for launching Diário’s online operation, a groundbreaking experience in digital journalism in Brazil, which became a benchmark in the country by inaugurating the concept of real-time news and minute-by-minute coverage of sports events. The newspaper’s website was also the first Brazilian digital outlet to offer live coverage (including video updates) of the 1998 World Cup in France.
