I participated with the Information Integration Group in the Midas Project with the goal of extracting, cleansing, and integrating data from multiple, publicly available, data sources. I was focused on the US government domain, with data sources containing information about Congress members, earmarks and federal spending, building an integration flow that solves an ETL-style integration problem through stages like data extraction, data cleansing & normalization, entity resolution. We designed and implemented these ETL-like stages in a scalable Hadoop based system with JSON as the data language and Jaql as the query and manipulation language, and we built a keyword-based search API and user interface to the integrated datasets based on Lucene and we also exported the data from JSON into relational data in DB2 to allow BI-like SQL aggregate queries.

Collaboration in the context of the NeP4B Project (Networked Peers for Business)Design and development of a semantic approach to perform aggregated search of data and services. The approach proposed can be described as a Service as Data approach, as opposed to Data as a Service approaches. In our approach informative services are considered as a kind of data source that can enhance the domain knowledge provided by a Global Schema of data. We developed a technique that, on the basis of an ontological representation of data and services related to a domain, supports the translation of a data query into a keyword-based service discovery process.
