I serve as the Chairman of the Richland-Lexington Airport District for the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE). As Chairman, I set the airport's strategic direction, working with the 12-member Commission board to develop long-term growth, development, and profitability plans. Additionally, I chair board meetings, ensuring discussions are productive and all commissioners can contribute effectively.As chair, I work closely with and oversee the Airport CEO, who handles day-to-day operations. I also share the responsibility with the board (commission) to ensure the airport's financial health and approve budgets. Additionally, I ensure the airport adheres to all relevant regulations set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other governing bodies. Also, my responsibility is to shape a positive public image for the airport. This may include representing the airport to the community, businesses, airlines, and government officials. I also may also be involved in specific initiatives such as expansion projects or attracting new airlines.

I serve as an appointed Commissioner for Richland-Lexington Airport District for the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE). As Commissioner, I have the following governance responsibilities:-Planning and Management: Involved in planning, establishing, operating, and maintaining the airport facilities. This includes setting fees and charges for using the airport, acquiring land, and constructing runways and terminals.-Regulation and Oversight: Exercising the authority to make rules and regulations for using the airport and its facilities. Also to restrict construction near the airport to ensure safety as well as appointing staff and ensure the airport adheres to relevant regulations.Financial Oversight: This involves sharing responsibility for the airport's financial health, including approving budgets and issuing bonds to fund new projects.-General Responsibilities: I also represent the commission to the community and work to promote air transportation.

I served as the C-Suite executive responsible for MUSC Health's strategic diversity initiatives and innovative community health programs. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, I oversaw the Health System's Diversity & Excellence Executive Council and its subcommittees. I worked with leaders throughout MUSC Health to build and implement strategies resulting in inclusive experiences for patients and families; the workforce; suppliers and the broader external community. I served as a senior advisor to the University President. Additionally, I served as ombudsman for diversity issues and as a resource to leaders concerning diversity and equity matters. I established and maintained effective working relationships with higher education institutions, school districts, community organizations, and leaders; formulating plans for innovative community health programs including an emphasis upon population health, care access and education.

I served as a full time resident fellow and keynote speaker at Harvard's Institute of Politics. I hosted and lectured in semester long study group to students, faculty, staff and community members on my six years of experience serving the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. I hosted a course called, Amazed & Confused: The Politics & Process of Implementing Healthcare Reform.

Served as Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' principal advisor for cultivating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders who have an interest in health reform. Developed the Department's overall strategy for building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including health care providers, private sector companies, opinion leaders; trade associations; business, and labor groups; advocacy organizations; foundations; constituency groups; and other non-governmental entities. Directed short and long-term outreach activities to engage and educate governmental and non-governmental stakeholders on health care reform implementation and other Secretarial priorities. Served as a surrogate for the Coordinated closely with the 17 HHS operating and staff divisions to ensure consistent messaging across the Department regarding health reform implementation. Provided guidance and coordination on outreach efforts of the White House for all matters related to health care reform implementation. Served as the senior liaison to the White House Office of Public Engagement.

Served as the senior member of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Regional Office in Region IV (Southeast). Served with full confidence of Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as the Regional Director with the responsibility for carrying out the Secretary’s policies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina & Tennessee. Represented the Secretary in direct official dealings with State, Local and Tribal government organizations. Established and maintained effective working relationships with Governors, Mayors, and other key State, local and Tribal officials. Provided guidance and coordination to the efforts of HHS-Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) Regional staff in dealings with Federal and non-Federal government officials. Made reports and recommendations to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and other Departmental officials concerning the application or improvement of HHS policies and service delivery systems. Participated in high level Department meetings to advise on impact of proposed Department action, whether on legislation, regulation, or administrative decisions. Provided input into policy decisions regarding the concerns and interests of State, local, and Tribal governments based upon first hand knowledge of and contact with key officials. Played an instrumental role in the public education and implementation of key Presidential initiatives such as the Affordable Care Act; Let's Move Campaign; and other strategic initiatives.

Represented District 79 in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Sponsored or co-sponsored more than one hundred pieces of legislation in the first year, focused on health insurance, public health policy, Cigarette Taxes/Medicaid, consumer financial services, child protective services, technical education, and fraud prevention. Authored and sponsored legislation creating the General Assembly’s first and only Joint Electronic Health Information Study Committee to examine the feasibility of increasing the use of Health Information Technology and Electronic Personal Health Records In South Carolina.Served on the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs committee in the House where is subcommittee assignment was Medical Affairs, Children Affairs and Social Services. Provided a key leadership role on all health care legislation assigned to the committee.
