I led the transformation of Google Meet from a software 1.0 video conferencing tool to an AI-powered user experience where the product is proactive and assistive while remaining simple and approachable. Following the rise of AI in 2022, I pivoted our 50+ designer and product team to focus on AI innovation, defining new principles and educating the team on AI trends through workshops and design sprints.By incorporating insights from market research and Google's own AI research, we designed a suite of AI-powered features that make Google Meet more intuitive, including smart note-taking, automated meeting attendance, real-time translations, and intelligent video layouts.At the 2023 CloudNext event, Google Meet was a highlight with 140 media mentions of our "Attend for Me" AI assistant. Our UX team also filed 16 patents related to our new AI meeting experiences.Through this work, I transformed our team into one that leverages AI both to increase our own productivity but also to drive innovation in making Google Meet seamlessly intelligent. The result is a more proactive, assistive, and effortless video meeting experience for our users.
