I am employed by Prompt Care as a Care Partner providing domestic assistance to senior communities. I currently have 5 clients that I see regularly in their homes, either weekly or fortnightly. I assist them with IT support, household tasks and provide companionship. This has proven to be an especially important role over COVID lockdowns where some clients are considered high risk and live alone, regular home assistance and social interaction has been beneficial to their physical and mental health.

I was lucky enough to secure a 10 day placement with the Swinburne University library. During which I had the opportunity to assist, observe and dive deep into conversation with members of staff from every facet of the organisation. I learned about the work of liaison librarians, research librarians and other specialist staff. I witnessed and participated in student enquiries, cataloging operations, attended Swinburne staff meetings, a CAVAL networking event and I created original digital content relating to predatory journals in collaboration with another student. This was an incredibly rich experience that left me inspired and energised.

As a full time teachers assistant I supported classroom teachers and classroom cohorts aged 4-11. I had focussed involvement working with children with additional education needs and children who had English as an additional language supporting them to achieve their educational goals. I was tasked with ideating, organising and delivering small group sessions for students during class time to enrich and reinforce their learning outcomes. I proposed and organised an after school club for children learning English that was a casual space for them to play games and practice their conversational skills in a relaxed environment with their peers which received positive feedback.From this job I learned the importance of communication and teamwork with parents, other practitioners and the community to ensure the safety and provision of quality care for all the children in my charge. The role required me to be organised and to be able to think quickly on my feet, using initiative, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
