After agreeing the business plan, I was kept on to set up the development team and lead the development of the new product that would be offered to farmers and integrated with councils and other industry bodies.I was responsible for the product development roadmap and working with the team to design and develop the technical solution.I was also involved in further developing the model and ensuring we had the validation environment and structures in place to ensure its integrity.The business has grown to support over 12,000 farms and 100,000 annual analyses of nutrient loss and GHG emissions.

Overseer is a software model for understanding nutrient flows and greenhouse gas emissions on farms. It has been developed over 30 years and was picked up by councils in New Zealand to manage farm nitrogen losses. I was hired by the owners of Overseer to help setup a economically sustainable business around this science model.Overseer Limited was created and the business plan developed by the CEO and myself was accepted by the owners. This plan was to redevelop the software around the model and offer it as as an online subscription service.

MSD started the development of a new online channel (MyMSD) under a larger simplification program. I joined an existing business design program as architect and helped set up agile delivery teams to develop and support a new online/mobile channel for clients.I lead the teams to create a new devops model for MSD, developing a responsive web application on top of a Java server. I lead the technical design and contributed as a developer within the team.MyMSD integrates with several MSD systems to provide clients with the ability to view and update their details via phone, desktop or tablet.MyMSD quickly became a major channel for MSD with over 600K users.

Education infrastructure services (EIS) manage the entire education property portfolio. A project was started in 2012 to replace the existing property management solution with an off the shelf product. I was brought in to help the project utilise Agile (SCRUM) to deliver the project into production. The team consists of approximately 25 people split into 3 SCRUM teams. The work involves a combination of product modification and configuration, data migration, business process design and integration with MoE systems.The role involved the construction of a product backlog, education of the team and the business, reporting to the various governance boards, implementation of SCRUM and the technical practices to support the process.

FarmIQ was set up as a PGP between Landcorp, Silver Fern Farms and MPI to transform the red meat industry. As part of a greater program of work, FarmIQ commissioned Fronde to help develop a world leading farm management product.The system incorporates animal and land management of farms, utilising EID technology to analyse farm performance. The solution is designed to integrate the red meat industry and so talks to several external parties including tag manufacturers, NAIT, Silver Fern Farms and on farm devices.I was involved in winning the RFP for Fronde and then setting up the development team. This was a large agile team comprising personnel from 4 companies (Fronde, Pikselin, E-Spatial and FarmIQ) delivering to a variety of stakeholders.Due to the size of the team, we ran as two coordinated SCRUM teams delivering from a single backlog. I sat across both teams to provide this coordination and manage the delivery.I was also responsible for the architecture, design and development of the product which is a rich web client with a Java back end, talking to a SQL Server database. The Web client uses HTML5 offline and caching technology to deliver a rich experience to the end user over a limited network.The back end uses Apache Camel and Active MQ to provide asynchronous processing of large data volumes, smoothing out the impact on the database and insulating the user from delays.

Also included in the offering are several applications that utilise messaging including:- Txtapark: Utilises SMS to provide a payment mechanism for parking- Train alerts; Subscription based alerting service for train delays- Banking services: SMS pull and push services for banks- Loyalty card services: SMS pull services for loyalty balances and redemptions

Customers for our products include Telstra, NZ Post, Express Couriers Ltd, Bank of Philippine Islands, ICan, Credit Agricole, Kiwibank, ETSL, Tranzmetro.Setup and run a mobile two factor authentication service (SaaS) based on the TwoSecure product .Helped to obtain patents on behalf of the business around mobile security and the banking platform.The company was set up for investment and so I assisted with venture capitalist engagement and presentation of company for sale.

Lead design and development of Enrol project. Enrol is a web based student registration system that MOE uses to track student movements between schools. Very successful delivery with the system still providing the principal on line interface that MOE has with schools.

Lead a team of architects tasked to review AREVA’s Distribution Network Management System (DMS). This solution was written for Florida Power and Light, AREVA wished to sell it to electricity utilities throughout the world. The review assessed the DMS architecture and its viability as a product as well as looking at the delivery process and engagement with the business.The solution was written in C++ and C# and placed massive demands on security, performance, load and availability.

Designed and managed the development of an information service between MSD and IRD, to replace an existing paper based process.I was also asked to develop an enterprise model for the entire MSD business. This involved reviewing each system and creating a common object model that satisfied the functionality and data structures required by MSD. This model was used when evaluating integration services and the CRM replacement for MSD.

Ericsson Synergy was set up as a joint venture between the software development firm Synergy and Ericsson. It provided development and consulting expertise to Ericsson NZ/Global for software platforms aimed at the Telecommunications market.My role was to lead the design and development of a set of components developed for Ericsson's Global Portal Platform. These components included a messaging gateway, a provisioning and rating engine and a content/subscriber management platform.I also provided consulting services into a variety of Telecommunications companies including:- Vodafone- Telecom- Telstra- Singtel- Chunghwa- FarEasTone- Telkomsel
