This was a ministerial priority and had been put on an accelerated parliamentary timetable – introduced in March, to be passed by June of the same year. This meant that a number of the processes associated with a Bill, which would normally be weeks or months apart, were instead days apart. This required robust project management, and I gained experience with a number of PMO tools throughout this process. I coordinated a number of briefings for the Minister for Community Safety as a part of the parliamentary process, and worked closely with key internal stakeholders such as Parliamentary Counsel and the Scottish Government Legal Department in order to develop a policy position on over 200 amendments. Following the Act being passed, I then formed a part of the implementation team for the Act - leading on the implementation of the Firework Control Zones provision within the Act. Through consultation with various internal and external stakeholders, including Scottish Government’s Chief Designer, the public participation team, and COSLA, I developed a proposal for a co-design process involving the key stakeholders who will be involved in utilising this provision in practise, supported by community engagement and regular engagement with interested stakeholders. Following its approval by the Minister for Community Safety, I convened a Working Group for the implementation of Firework Control Zones, for which I act as Chair and Secretariat. The process is due to conclude in June 2023, with the laying of commencement regulation in the Scottish Parliament. Show less
