The Office of the Ontario Ombudsman (the OO) promotes fairness, accountability and transparency in the public sector by investigating public complaints and systemic issues within it’s jurisdiction. The OO oversees more than 500 provincial bodies (including ministries, boards, & tribunals, broader public sector bodies (including municipalities, universities, and school boards), child protective services and French language services. The legal services team acts as in-house counsel to the Ombudsman through providing critical support to the OO’s operations. The team assists the OO in maintaining credibility with the public and a high degree of effectiveness in responding to individual and systemic complaints about provincial government services and municipal closed meetings. Articling students assist in all aspects of the work of the legal services team:• Conducting legal research and providing legal opinions on jurisdictional and other legal issues• Drafting documents (e.g. memoranda, reporting letters, letters to government bodies and complainants)• Conducting analysis of Bills before the Legislative Assembly• Assisting in the review, investigation and resolution of complaints (this includes interviewing witnesses, identifying issues, analyzing evidence and preparing draft reports and recommendations)

Queen's Legal Aid (QLA) is funded by Legal Aid Ontario, Queen's University and St. Lawrence College. QLA provides free legal services to low-income residents in the Kingston area and Queen's University and St. Lawrence College students. • Balanced working on multiple files that were at different stages of settlement or trial• Researched relevant case law and legislation for each file• Consulted with the supervising lawyer on issues and progress of each file• Drafted legal documents (e.g. memoranda, reporting letters, opinion letters)• Represented clients at hearings (e.g. prep hearing binders, clients and witnesses for direct and cross-examinations) in front of various tribunals (e.g. Landlord Tenant Board, Criminal Injury and Compensation Board, Social Benefits Tribunal, Human Rights Tribunal etc.)

As an intern in the International Legal Programs Section (ILPS) of the Department of Justice, I worked in collaboration with the ILPS jurists to:• Research and prepare written summaries of specific aspects of various justice systems• Contribute to the development of briefing documents for senior management• Attend departmental and interdepartmental meetings

The Trillium Network is a not-for-profit organization that works to promote the growth of Ontario manufacturing. The Trillium Network implements recommendations from the research conducted by the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management through various projects.The Firm Profile Project profiles and publishes articles on successful manufacturing firms in Ontario to change the narrative around Ontario manufacturing.• Contacted and requested the participation of manufacturing firms in Southern Ontario• Interviewed an executive member at each firm and assisted in creating a firm profile with key statistics and facts as well as a brief narrative for each firmThe Geo-mapping Project is creating a comprehensive tool for foreign investors to use to seek prospective sites in Ontario. The tool shall map manufacturing firms, relevant suppliers, intermediaries and educational institutions on an interactive user-friendly map.• Compiled, sorted and edited data to be prepped for upload into the geo-mapping tool

Creative Services (CS) is a not-for-profit Copy and Print Centre at Western University. CS offers its services to the students and faculty at Western University as well as members of the London community.• Worked at the cash register and interact with clients to record orders & complete transactions • Trained new associates in the process of recording and producing orders as well as the workings of the production machines and the register
