I have graduated from the medical faculty of Tartu University in Estonia, where I received the MD degree. Following the graduation I initiated doctoral studies in molecular neurobiology at the Institute of Biotechnology, Helsinki University, Finland and was awarded a PhD in 2012 for studies on molecular mechanisms of Parkinson's Disease. I have also worked as a clinical research associate, managing phase III clinical trials. After my PhD I switched to cancer research and worked as clinical/translational research manager at the Competence Centre for Cancer Research in Tallinn, Estonia. I also held a position as Head of Research and Development at the North-Estonian Medical Centre, which is the largest hospital in Estonia. In 2015 I decided to finish my medical specialization and enrolled in a residency program in oncology, which I completed in August 2019.
