Before that, NextDrop crowdsourced water data and creates algorithms and visualizations to improve urban water distribution across emerging markets. Urban residents could get a text message an hour before water arrives, if water supply is cancelled, or if there is contamination or low pressure present in the pipe network. On the utility side, engineers get a live feed on problems arising in the distribution system, so they can tackle issues in real time.

HMS is continuing its mission through three sets of initiatives: developing and selling point-of-use technologies for effective water storage, engaging in research and advocacy of good sanitation habits, and implementing education and outreach programsI developed a sustainable model for promoting hygiene education in Mumbai, India, in which the number of impacted slum residents increased by over 400% after implementation in 2006. I also recruited, managed, and trained 50 students from 8 local colleges to conduct hygiene workshops in local slums.
