DOR is a field action project of Centre for Livelihoods and Social Innovation, School of Social Work, TISS, Mumbai situated around the lives of 19 families belonging to the Nomadic & DNT Dombari community which travels to Mumbai from Chattisgarh for 9 months to perform acrobatics and street performances as part of their traditional livelihood. DOR is a student-faculty initiative working on issues of:-Ensuring low-cost sustainable housing and basic amenities for the community.-Finding synergy between traditional livelihoods and mainstream; addressing legal contraventions with BMC, Police and regressive laws and policies. -Alternative contextual education for adults and children in the community through concepts like Tent School.-Scoping alternative livelihoods

The Narikkuravars are a criminalised community that have been historically associated with hunting. With the state taking away their weapons and license to hunt, while providing no alternate opportunities for employment, they have been pushed to a point of critical deprivation. The focus of the field work was1) Skill building of the Narikkuravar men and women to help them find employment2) Conducting baseline tests to ascertain levels of education3) Advocating for the status of 'Scheduled Tribe' for the community4) Building a rapport with the Sarpanch, District Collector, Local MLA, Colony chiefs and School Leaders.5) Understanding the relevance of their identity and historicity on their day to day lives
