I am a Senior Fellow at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi, India. I have carried out postdoctoral research at the Universities of Pennsylvania and Oxford and has applied macro economic analysis to study informality. I have written (and co-authored) a number of papers for conferences and reports/ bulletins of institutions and book chapters, papers fot professional journals and books.. Recently my jointly edited book with Barbara Harris-White on Trade Liberalization and India’s Informal Economy was published by OUP. My contribution on informal labour issues was published in a volume titled ‘Informal Labour Markets and Development’, edited by Guha-Khasnobis and Ravi Kanbur; Palgrave Macmillan. I am engaged in analysis of reforms in India and is active in dissemination processes involving policy makers and is involved in policy debates. I am member of various committees and scholarly networks such as the Steering Committee and Technical Committee of the Ministry of Small Scale Industry, Government of India for undertaking All India Census of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Wolfson College and the Department of International Development, QEH, University of Oxford, UK and the Gender Network of the University of Utah. I had contributed as a Senior Consultant of the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECA) in their initiative in mainstreaming gender to study the impact of trade liberalization in African countries. Moreover I am involved in various international assessments and forums to study the impact of macro policies on the informal and women workers. I am a regular referee of international journals. I have been author and peer reviewer of Global Reports and Sourcebooks.Specialties: The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) was founded in 1956 as an independent institution, run by a Governing Body. The Chief Executive of the Council is its Director General. Under the guidance of the Governing Body, the Director General, who is further advised by a management council, runs the NCAER. The institution provides support to both the government and the private sector in empirical economic research mainly for policy analysis.
